Challenges:
This particular project is a prime example of how even the simplest applications can pose difficulties for any crew. The client decided on a tar and chip application for a tougher resurface for the base of his driveway. This process includes an application of gravel on top of a hot-tar bonding agent. We perform this process in a 2 layer application; one layer using larger aggregate for a stronger base, and the second layer being smaller aggregate for a smooth finish. We begin the process by grading the existing gravel driveway. This ensured that we were able to follow the grade with the tar and chip application and it also ensured appropriate water flow. This process by itself did not provide many, if any, difficulties. Our difficulties lied solely with the weather. Our schedule fit this job in during a week that had some rainy weather. This limited the window of opportunity our team had to apply the tar and chip to the driveway, due to the fact that the water will ruin the tar if not given time to set prior. With some expert scheduling and and a team dedicated to quick and quality service, we were able to complete this project ahead of the rain and achieve the smooth even finish that Spalding Concrete strives for. One more satisfied customer, and another job well done.
