New Driveway/Water Flow Solution – Jackson, GA 2020

Description:

  1. Dig out path through wooded area with Skid steer per customer request.
  2. Grade existing sub-grade to ensure proper water flow and level for base
  3. Add GAB over subgrade and grade, ensuring proper water flow
  4. Add baby surge to areas needing additional water flow control and redirection
  5. Install hot-mix asphalt to all graded areas
  6. Install asphalt curbs to continue in assisting with proper water flow managements

Challenges:

Our expert crew at Spalding Concrete works tirelessly to help all of our customers tackle any problems they have regarding our field. This particular customer had a very specific issue they needed our expertise to tackle; water flow and control. The beautiful lake house, built about mid way down a hill, had many issues with water flooding through their yard during rain. This problem was mainly due to run off from the existing driveway. With a clear goal in mind our team brainstormed with the customer for the best possible solution to the problem. The solution was clear and dual purposed. We were going to pave a new path through a wooded area, around the yard. This path designed to not only catch the water run off from the existing drive way and direct it to the existing drainage ditch set up by the customer, but it would also allow the customer to drive down to their dock for some much deserved swimming and fishing. Once the solution was in sight, our team got to work. With over 40 years of experience on site, grading the subgrade to the correct pitch was a simple task. This opened up the area for GAB and laid the ground work for easy grading to prepare for paving. Once all the GAB was applied and graded, our team added additional base material, Baby-Surge, in some areas that seemed as though needed some additional help for water flow and control. Once ready, our team began the paving process. The biggest challenge during this process was the installation of asphalt curbs. We needed to ensure the height and lets of the curbs were appropriate to catch as much run off as possible in order to direct flow towards a pre-existing drainage ditch. With the asphalt and curbs installed and throughly compacted, we were able to clean up and leave the site with yet another satisfied customer.
